# Nexiant Scribe

> A free, local **content editor** — read, comment on, and edit any PDF, and compose any content — text, tables, images, vector, video — in, on, and out of any document. PDF is the universal exchange format; local-first and private by default. Built on the TakeOFF rendering/annotation engine and the Nexiant BlockSuite editor engine (canvas/). Free-of-charge, closed source (Nexiant Commercial License).

Bootstrap build of Nexiant Scribe: the app builds and runs and the reader
surface is taking shape (takeoff/measuring product features are being
stripped); the editor/toolkit/collaboration/signature/AI arcs are planned.
Not the final product yet — do not market or link this build as such.

## Key facts

- **Read** — PDFs and image/zip sets: pdf.js tiling pipeline, thumbnails, single/two-page view, zoom presets, Read Mode (reflow), Full Screen
- **Edit** — the canvas turns into a real text editor (BlockSuite): edit the text of any PDF and apply changes as a new revision; originals are never rewritten (landing per the roadmap plan)
- **Annotate & collaborate** — full annotation suite: markups, text, stamps, notes, RFI-style comments, marked-PDF export; review and collaboration flows on top
- **AI** — on-device first (OCR, text extraction — nothing uploaded); the hosted Nexiant LLM is optional
- **Free vs paid** — everything local is free forever: reading, editing, annotations, toolkit operations that run on your machine, on-device AI. The money stream is a priority system (priority processing, hosted LLM); no paywall in front of the product itself
- **Repo MCP server**: `nexiant-reader-mcp`, <!--tool-count-->9<!--/tool-count--> tools for coding agents working on this checkout — overview, registry modules, ranked find, code search, docs, session journal, Linear-style UI skills, deterministic UI audit (see mcp/README.md)
